  Copying vector pts. from Illustrator CS to AE 6.5

  I have been trying to create a write-on effect for the past couple of hours now and it will not let me copy and paste my pts. from illustrator to AE. Is there something I am doing wrong or need to do differently? PLEASE HELP ASAP!
