capture thru A to D converter
I am trying to capture VHS tapes and it seems like PPro gets confused as to what the input is when I try to capture. The VCR is running via RCA cables into an analog to digital converter (ADVC110), then from the converter to the computer via firewire. The “input select” button is pushed so that “analog in” is lit up. “DV in” is also lit up. I don’t know if this is normal or not. But when I open the capture window in PPro, once in a while the VCR picture will show up and I can capture using the “Capture Now” feature, or whatever it’s called. But if I accidentally click one of the device controls (play, pause, etc, in the capture dialog box), suddenly I lose the VCR and get a black screen that says either “device offline” or “stopped” and I can’t do anything. I can’t for the life of me get the VCR to show up again. Then, when I try to click around, suddenly PPro will altogether shut down. It will just disappear. Same thing happens when I restart it and go back into Capture mode. This will happen over and over. I have also tried shutting the computer and VCR down and restarting, but this changes nothing. The first time it happened I got so frustrated that I gave up on the project for a few weeks. When I came back to it, the VCR came up first time around, then I hit a wrong button, and the same thing happened all over again. This is where I’m at now, not able to get the VCR to show up again. Does this sound like anything anyone else has dealt with? It seems like such a bizarre thing to happen. I’m stuck! Any ideas or answers would be much appreciated. Thanks…
