    Hi-
I’m trying to output to miniDV from Premiere from the timeline. The video was taken in 16X9 on an XL2. It looks like a 16X9 ratio on the timeline. The properties say the video is 720X480(1.2). When I try to export to miniDV, the video is clipped on the sides in the camera monitor (it looks like it is just doing a non-widescreen capture, with no black bars on top/bottom).

Please let me know if you have suggestions about what I should change to get 16X9 output to miniDV, or if you need any other information. Thank you.

Its outputting 16:9 anamorphic. To output letterboxed 16:9 you’ll have to render that timeline out, then bring it in to a 4:3 aspect ratio project, make sure it’s sized correctly, and then export it to tape.

True 16:9 wide screen can only be viewed from a DVD when exported using 16:9 Mpeg 2 DVD preset AND played back on a player that can read the 16:9 flag embedded in the video.
