    hi folks,
again a question to all the great helpers out there :-). how can i exchange a clip in the timeline of Premiere Pro without loosing the transitions that ar already placed on the clip. to get a better understanding – i pre cutted a storyboard of stills with transitions to be synchrone with the soundtrack. now i did the artwork on the clips and want to exchange the stills with the new footage (that not neccesarily must be a still it also can be a video) everytime i place a new file the transitions are lost :-(. with 6.5 it was no problem because of the AB tracks. help help help 🙂
thanks in advance to you all – you rock guys !

I believe if you name the new replacements with their old names, the new will replace the old and keep the transitions intact.

Now, this can become nightmarish to keep track, so I suggest first making a copy of the project, rename the old clips (say with a x-prefix), re-name their replacements using the old names, and check Timeline. Try this with a few clips first to see how/if it works. This should work with both stills and video clips.

Post a reply to tell us how you fare.

Wait until the very end of the project before you add transitions. Or learn to use more straight cuts. In the meantime, submit a feature request to Adobe to add a “replace footage” command.
