mp4’s and Premiere
As far as I can tell, Premiere really dislikes mp4’s. Not only is it impossible to import mp4’s into Premiere, but it seems to not like any file that I’ve converted from an mp4 into something else; even an Avi. It’s somewhat frustrating.
Here’s what I did:
I ripped some footage off of a dvd onto a mac using Mac the Ripper. Then I brought the VOB files through a program called OpenShiiva (also on the mac), which made them mp4’s. Since Premiere wasn’t interested in those, I exported them in Quicktime Pro to mov’s. When I tried bringing those into Premiere, it appears to have randomly changed the frame rate of those files to something little (like 1.87 frames a second, or so). Then I tried exporting avi’s from Quicktime Pro, and when I bring them into Premiere, the audio is there, but the video is nothing but black.
So something funky’s going on here. It’s either; a setting in Premiere, a setting in Quicktime Pro, mp4’s are poopy, macs and pc’s don’t get along, or maybe I need to figure out another way to rip this dvd.
Any ideas would be awesomely appreciated…
Thanks
