    I can’t get AE 6.5 to run. It won’t launch… I’ve tried re-installing, removing QT 7 (and itunes), rebooting… re-installing QT 6. Reboot, reinstall… blah, blah, blah.

    Any ideas….. ?

    Thank so much

Have you deleted your prefs files? They won’t be removed or overwritten during re-installs and may still screw your AE. Another way around this is to log on to your computer under a different user name and launch AE at least once. Sometimes this will magically fix things…

Easiest way to delete the prefs is to hold down cmd-option-shift (mac) or ctrl-alt-shift (win) when starting AE, at which point AE will ask you if you wish to delete the prefs file. (works for both AE 6.5 and 7)

I had a similar issue, it required me removing the OpenGL plugin. Adobe has since released a patch to 6.5.1 and this seemed to fix the issue. Check out the download section on their website.

you could try moving your third-party plugins to a different folder and then start up. if it starts up ok, start placing your plugins back one by one and opening ae everytime until you find the bad plugin. once you find the bad plugin see if it has its own preference file, or check the company’s website on how to troubleshoot it
