Hey guys, I love all the tutorials I can find here on creative cow, but I need help with something I have not seen explained before. I need to create a section of a yard where a portal type thing opens up and a person comes through the portal. Any suggestions? I’ve been trying ripple, and with a bit of masking that makes for a good portal, but I can’t seem to think of a nice, clean way they can emerge from the portal. Anything would be helpful.

Again, you all are so great here at this board and in the tutorials. I have learned so much in these past few months.

    Take care,

    Matt

do you have something like a door as a portal or does you person just appear anywhere ?

But att all I would try it with displacement maps. just to get some motion and distortion in the area of your image where the person will appear and than do something like that: https://members.lightbound.com/~artsy1gal/xporter/xportertut.html

Its just going to be a whirlpool type portal that opens up and a person comes through it, kind of like what they do on stargate or in mortal kombat

If you have a green screen of the person walking through the portal, then Auto-trace a mask, then keyframe the mask expansion, as the walker emerges through the portal. Roughen edges, animating size, offset and others to taste adds reality. And a good slurpy sound could sell the effect. Create the whirlpool in the background layer.

Should be pretty quick to test out.
