  • HELP! PP2 won’t capture

Posted by Hector Melendez on April 24, 2006 at 8:55 pm

I don’t know what’s happening… connected my dv cam player as always but this time I can’t make it online. In the capture window; the capture recording /playback, etc is greyed. When I turn on-off the camera there is not any sound “as always” that indicate something online or connected to the ports. I changed the 1394 cable and switched 2 cams but problem persist.

In preferences it indicates “device is offline” I didn’t remember anything I have done that cause this.

Please help to find our the problem. I have being working with PP2 about 6 months with no problems.

Try to google and download winDV (Small DV capture application) to see if the problem lies within premiere, but it looks like from what you described that XP doesn’t actually even see the device. Did you say that you tried 2 different camaras ?

Then, it’s either your Firewire card (I am assuming you have a card) or its driver. It might be worth buying a cheap (returnable) $10.00 card to see if that’s the problem. If it is indeed a card, you may also want to try changing it to a new slot to kind of reset things.

Finaly, it just could be a corrupted driver. You could try unintalling the driver through device manager and let xp reinstall it at start up.

Just for details sake, is the camera the only thing plugged in the port ?

Is this a Firewire card or on integrated port ?

    Cheers,

    Vince

Thanks for your answer. Very informative!
Well my PS is a HP Mediacenter. It have a capture card. I never had a problem with PP1.5 .

I forgot to mention that I deleted PP1.5 a couple of weeks ago. Since that last capture was problematic and this one was impossible.
I reinstalled 1.5 back and now I can capture in PP2 or 1.5. Very weird!
Could be a common driver was deleted.
Now I have to keep 1.5 in my PC due to this…unless someone find a solution.

    Thanks

I have had similar problems that I did not have on a previous computer running 1.5 and XP Home Edition

I have a Media Center PC as well and I am running 2.0 now. One thing I have definately figured out is that I can only use 1 firewire device at a time (if my external hard drive is powered on, my computer will not recognize my camera, or it will recognize it but then fail almost immediately).

If you have uninstalled and reinstalled and it seems to be working now, then it was probably just a corrupt install to begin with. Media Center Edition seems to be quite finicky when dealing with Video Capture though so good luck.

Other users have reported this same problem on the Adobe forums and have narrowed it down to conflicting installations of Morgan Switcher and old Decklink drivers. Would you have either of these installed?

Humm… I realized that I installed “Scenalizer” this week. This could be the cause of the conflict… wow!
