  • Can’t Activate Recroder- error message in PPro 2

Has any one dealt with this over here at the Cow? I get the error with both a DV and HDV camcorder. I have tried the renew 1394 folder in the registry that is on the Adobe tech paper. I don’t seem to have the Nimo Codec and I have not changed any hardware on my computer, (a Sager 4790 laptop with a 3.2 p4/HT and a gig of RAM). There is no specialized capture hardware either, i.e. Canopus or Matrox stuff. The only a/v type software I’ve added since the install has been the Dreamweaver 8 Studio tryout version. Everything worked fine up until about a month ago. No real changes to the computer I remember. Anybody else have this issue and or a solution? Thanks for looking.

Courtsey of Mitch411 from the Adobe forums:

Download GraphEdit from Videohelp Tools or from anyplace else on the web that you prefer.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed (should take about 10 seconds), open GraphEdit and choose Graph > Insert Filters. Scroll down to a listing for “Video Capture Sources” and expand it to see what’s there. If you’ve got anything other than Microsoft DV camera and VCR, then expand that entry to see the location and name of the file. Navigate to that location and rename it’s file extension to .old. Now try capturing in PPro 2.0.

Thanks Aanarav, I was hoping you or Mitch would find me as the adobe forum thread kinda died. Did as you, via Mitch411, advised. The Graph Edit shows no MS DV under video capture at all. Just a CMM PC usb camera with a file name in the Direct X category called ksproxy.ax. Graph Edit won’t tell me which particular ksproxy.ax file it is, where it is, there are 11 of them. Any ideas? What should GraphEdit be seeingand how do I find out which ksproxy.ax to turn into ksproxy.old. All of them?

Again thanks. You and Mitch 411 seem to be the only two that are up on this- so far. I wonder if Adobe is hip to this, they make no mention of this approach in there tech document.

    Hi Eric,
I haven’t run into this problem so far, but a few people that I work with and train have (unfortunately) seen this issue. What other softwares are you running on your system? Can you put up an entire list? Also, download and run an application called Everest Home Edition. Follow the directions and it will generate an HTML file. If you can send me the HTML file, we can perhaps track this down further.
