Does anyone know how to get PPro 2.0 to recognize Boris Red 3.01? I’ve tried to reinstall Boris, but it doesn’t see the folder. I also tried to drag some files to its plug-in folder, but I don’t know which files to drag. I hope someone knows.

On my system the that made Red work with PPRO 2 are
    FL6-BorisRED3.prm
    IM-BorisRED3.prm
    FX6-BorisRED3.prm

I put them in the PPro/Plug-ins/en_US folder.

If there are other files I don’t recall what they were.

Red has functioned perfectly so far, but I have not used it heavily enough to claim absolute certainty on that score.

Do you find Red to be worth the price? Is it as fast as they claim?

[Norman Lafranchi] “Do you find Red to be worth the price?”

If I was making a buying decision today, I don’t know what I would do. At the time I acquired it, it made sense. Now that AE is making good use of OpenGL the speed difference is not so great. In fact, now AE might actually be more responsive when adjusting a comp. Boris probably renders faster, but that’s a guess. I haven’t done any benchmark testing.

There are some tricks that are much easier to accomplish in Boris vs AE. I really like the ease with which you can turn vector art into 3D objects. And there are some pretty cool materials that can be applied to 3D shapes. Not that the same couldn’t be done with AE. Boris makes it a snap.

All things considered I’ve gotten my moneys worth from RED over the three+ years I’ve had it.
