I’m puzzled-Why the visible difference in DV quality?
I have an asset, a Quicktime .MOV video file, 30fps, 1.0PAR, 320 X 240 pixels. No fields. This is my test clip.
1. In 1.5.1, I create a new STANDARD DV project(from the preset), and import the clip. On timeline, clip shows red, CTI movement is sporadic, requires rendering. I skip rendering (irrelevant) and export a MOVIE, standard DV preset, to produce a standard NTSC DV.AVI. I now have a full screen DV compliant version of this clip. (29.97, lower fields, 720×480, .9, etc.)
2. In 1.5.1, I create a CUSTOM preset, Video for Windows, 30fps, 1.0PAR, 320×240 frame size, no fields(progressive). I import the same test clip. On timeline, no green/red bar, no CTI sluggishness, no need to render. I export, a MOVIE, using the same DV spec (29.97, lower field interlace, .9PAR, etc.) I now have a second full screen, DV compliant version of this clip.
3. I open a new, STANDARD DV project, and import both clips. Properties show the clips to be identical DV.AVI clips, 720×480, 29.97, .9 PAR, lower fields, etc. Same number of frames. For both clips, ALL values displayed in the properties window are identical. Since they are DV, neither clip needs rendering. They both play fine.
The second clip appears slightly (very slightly) larger in the monitor window, but SIGNIFICANTLY sharper, clearer, in focus. The first clip appears fuzzy, slightly blurred.
Would someone please explain why this might be?
Keep Smiling
