Weak pulse, patient dead?
I have legacy analog projects 20-plus years old. I am systematically transferring them to digital, but many are in bad shape.
My process has been to transfer to DV using my camcorder as a VCR. The sych pulse signal is very weak on the original. While digitizing gives me a timeline I am able to edit, I suspect that extremely slow rendering to MPG and/or system crashes while rendering to MPG are somehow the consequence of inconsistencies between actual frames and the pulses accounting for them.
If I lay down a track on my DV tape BEFORE I record unstable video over it, I obviously won’t sove the problem of my video’s instability, but would it at least make it’s accounting agree with my compressors? [I’m using Media Encoder.]
