expanding text in titles
Posted by Robin Binford on February 13, 2006 at 11:56 pmIt’s probably in a post somewhere but I’ve yet to find it so I’ll ask (again perhaps). How can I expand text in titles created in Adobe Premier Pro/After Effects (done in so many ads on TV)? I can scale the titles but to have them expand or visually kern the letters in the title is what I’m looking for. Thanks, Robin

February 14, 2006 at 2:18 amIt is possible to “expand” the text (kern & lead) in PremPro but not to animate it.

February 15, 2006 at 3:01 pmboris grafitti will do this nicely also. I suppose if you were only doing it on a few titles in a program you could fudge it, just make each letter a separate title, stack ’em up on a separate sequence, animate, and bring that in as a clip – tedious if doing it a lot obviously.

February 15, 2006 at 6:45 pmThanks. I had actually thought about doing this with the titles but there are several so it I thought it would be easier in After Effects. I’ve recently purchased AE so I’m not as familiar with it currently. Do you know of a tutorial that might address this?

February 16, 2006 at 11:57 pmAE 6.5 makes this even easier as it includes Text Animations that you can apply. There is a specific animation called “increase tracking”. Then adjust the keyframes to suit…

February 22, 2006 at 3:40 amThanks Eric. I did try that and had success with it, however I’m having trouble making it appear with a transparent background similar to the title generator in PP. I’m simply trying to layer titles with a little more animation than just scaling. Any tips will help. Thanks again. Robin
