I want to do quick seq. dump to a DVD recorder (consumer grade) via 1394. When my little palmcorder sits idle, following a capture session, I can see PC out via a 1394 cable in the camera’s flipout LCD.
I have, in fact, recorded 1394 out to a DV tape… then transferred to DVD (using a Pioneer PRV-LX1 at work). Good results, but I want to cut down process time.

I bought a Panasonic recorder. Nice deck… expcept the microscopic print that says “can not record computer output” — buried in the manual. Back in the box and back to Best Buy.

Is anyone doing this successfully? Is anyone doing this successfully with a sub-$200 deck? I’m considering Samsung DVD-R120.

I don’t believe you can do that. The Pioneer DVD recorder I have will actually control your camcorder. Not sure if these devices will see input video over firewire, like with analog inputs, or if it needs to have a control signal also.

I have the high-end consumer Panny (maybe E100?) and haven’t had any luck doing what you suggest. I think the DVD recorder is expecting to see a camcorder that it can control. The computer is also expecting to connect to a camcorder that it can control, so they do not work together.

Maybe the next version of DVD recorders?

I have a few Panasonic DMR-E20 DVD recorders (circa 2003) and they record fine via firewire from any computer….
