  • Help – My interview is ruined by background noise

Posted by Joe Cinquina on November 23, 2005 at 4:04 pm

I shot some football interviews for a piece I am doing. The video is great, but the background noise from the car traffic almost drowns out the players voice. What audio effect should I use to try and elemenate the noise and what is the best way to use it. I also have audition 1.5 besides Premiere Pro 1.5. This is one area that I have not done a lot of work in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Joe

Audition has a great noise reduction filter. If you haven’t posted on the CreativeCow Audition forum yet, head on over there.

If you have the Audition software, it has a feature called pop/click reduction. You can remove all the background noise by sampling/copying the noise and then apply it globally in the soundtrack.

    It works very well.

Choosing only one of the audio channels (left or right) and duplicating it (fill left or fill right) will help a little. You can also try eq’ing the audio tracks by reducing all the frequency bands except the vocal range.
