Capture and Track problems
Hi —
I’m using Premiere Pro 1.5 and have just encountered some new troubles. I logged a number of clips, highlighted them in the project window, right clicked and initiated a batch capture. Premiere controlled the deck and went through each clip, and when done told me the capture was finished. The icons for each clip still said it was offline, though. When I opened windows explorer, though, the clips were right where they should have been.
So, I imported the clips into the project. Not a terrible inconvenience, but a pain because I’m used to having the clips in the project already after capture. What was strange, though, is that when I dragged the clip onto the timeline, it would only put the audio on Audio Track 4 (a heretofore nonexistent track in my project). Further, once the clip was on the timeline, I can’t move it off track 4.
Anyone know what’s up? I captured stuff this morning without trouble, but it just started acting strange.

Two things
1. I have seen this problem with PPro where you batch then it does what happened to you. I don’t remember if I rebuilt the machine or if it just started working, but it works ok now. Don’t know what to tell you other than try to delete the media and rebatch to see if it does it again. Try to duplicate the problem.
2. the first three audio tracks are stereo by default, I assume that your audio is mono (whether you wanted it that way or not) so it puts it on a mono track and just creates the track. You cannot put a mono track on a stereo track. You should be able to see if it’s mono or stereo in the bin area, I believe it will report there or right click the media in the bin and check the properties. Notice that there are mono, stereo, and 5.1 effects too and you can’t mix them either.
You will also notice that in Clip>Audio options there is a “treat as stereo” option. If you apply this to a mono clip, you can put it in the stereo track!!! WooHoo!!!

Thanks for the info. You’re right about the Mono issue; hadn’t even noticed it at all, but sure enough, the track came in as Mono. I wonder what setting I missed and where to make that happen. But whatever. That problem is solved.
As, it would seem, after a good night’s sleep, is the other problem. I digitized (captured, whatever) some new footage and it works just fine.
Sometimes I think these computers are more capricious than most humans — even before they’ve had their morning coffee….
