  Export to Quicktime settings (for the web)

  Thanks for reading my post.
  I have completed my Premiere Pro (ver.1) project and exported a Windows media file with the WM9 NTSC 256K download codec. I now wish to also export a quicktime version. The problem is that I’m lost in a sea of settings options. I have experimented with trial and error to no avail. I was hoping that someone could share with me their video preset files(.vpr) From what I have heard Windows media 9 codec is slightly more effecient than the Quicktime codecs installed with Premiere Pro 1. My .wmv file is 12 megs and any Quicktime .mov thats close to that would put a smile on my face.
  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. How long is the duration of your video?
  2. What is the file size you are aiming for?

  Settings that may lower your file size:
  a. Bitrate (lower bitrate = lower file size)
  b. Frame rate (you really don’t need 29.97fps for your web video. Lower it down to 24 or even 15)
  c. Audio: The audio does not have to be of the highest quality as your DV version.

  The Sorenson basic codec installed with Premiere is not near as efficient as Windows Media Video 9. You may need twice the bitrate to get similar quality without Sorenson Professional codec.
  If you are going to export QT movies, you may want Sorenson’s Squeeze which will install the Professional codec and it will be available from within Premiere.

  Using Adobe Media encoder for Windows Media 9 NTSC 256K download codec settings were:
  320×240
  29.97 fps
  1164 kbps
  It created a file that is 12 megs in size.

  I am happy with the outcome for Windows Media users. Now I need a coparable file in the Quicktime format for my Apple audience.

  I would like the .MOV to be of similar quality to the Windows Media file described above.
  I would understand if the .MOV has a slightly larger file size of around 12-15 megs.

  I was hoping that someone could share with me their (quicktime) video preset files(.vpr) Anyone can E-mail them to me at ramair4@aol.com

  Your 1164 kbps is overkill for 320 x 240 using Windows Media Encoder 9, and way too big for streaming over the web. 400-500 kbps should be sufficient.
  I dont think custom presets are saved as .vpr files…I searched all drives and found 274 files, but not one of the many custom presets I have made.
  Try creating a custom preset 800 kbps, 320 x 240.

  Well I broke down and purchased Sorenson Squeeze and it works great. I have compressed a couple files down to my target 5-9 megs. The quality is awesome. I can’t understand why this product hasn’t had more press than it has. It did set me back a couple of hundred dollars but I can already see that it will make a subsantial improvement in my workflow.

  ps- Adobe media encoder askes for .vpr files right before you set the compression settings. In case anyone was wondering about the file format.
