    Hi

I am on a Mac and have an .avi file encoded with IV50 which is not supported by OSX.

My client (limited video knowledge) has premiere on windows. Should she be able to export to .mov from premiere? Is it as straightforward as

    export > .mov > highest quality ??

I would like to be able to give very clear and precise instructions.

    Thanks

    Peter

    Shouldn’t be any problem.
Tell them to go to File>export>movie
    choose “settings”
In the “General” settings area choose Quicktime from the drop down box
In the Video section choose the codec from the drop down. I would use the animation codec at 100% quality as it is lossless at this setting but the file size is a little smaller.

    thanks

it seems that she has premiere elements, and had no oppurtunity to specify the codec…but fps 29.97, millions of colors, quality 100% all look good – so hopefully I wont lose too much getting it into fcp

According to Apple Official Website, Apple devices and players only support “Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format”. So it is impracticable if the AVI files are encoded with a codec that QuickTime can’t recognize. In this case, the best solution is to convert AVI to MOV (QuickTime) for playback.

Hope this is helpful to you.
