Help with Titling Software
Posted by Mvesvideo on August 10, 2005 at 1:14 pmI am using Premiere 6.5. The titling feature doesn’t do what I want it to do. I was going to get Titlemotion, but it doesn’t support later editions of Premiere. I don’t want to get something I can’t use when if I upgrade. Can someone suggest a plug-in that would help create titles, captions, and lower-third graphics?
Thanks.

August 10, 2005 at 3:49 pmWhat are you trying to accomplish? Perhaps it can be done in 6.5.

August 11, 2005 at 2:10 pmI’m trying to create a lower third. I’ve included a link to a screen shot. I can send a better example by e-mail. Any tips would be appreciated.https://www.mves.org/show/pictureexample.htm

August 11, 2005 at 2:38 pmThe capture that you shows is just a simple title, but if you are wanting to have the word craws in, then that can be done in Prem 6.5 titlers as well, you just need to play around with the options. Open the titler > On the “mother menu” where it has tools > find the crawling or (I forgot what it is called), then, play with the options. I think Mike V. here in the forum has a sample on how to do so on his web site. (Mike is one of the Forum moderators).

August 11, 2005 at 3:53 pmThanks.I am actually using Premiere 6.0. Do you think the image was done in Photoshop? Can it be done in Premiere itself? How does the transparency work? I would like to try to have the titles crawl.
Thanks.

August 11, 2005 at 4:20 pmYou mean the lower third banners (“the image”)? If you just want simple square, eclipse, circle or something like that kind of shape, use the shape tool, create the background color, set the transparency (options in the right side of the titler window) If you want something more complicated, then you need to upgrade to Pro or buy other programs. Yes, you can do the lower third banners in any image program and export with alpha channel as well, I believe, and import into Premiere. (I am not sure 6.0 support image import w/ alpha or not, however, but you can certainly import as another layer. Well, I hope you understand what I am telling you, cause I am not in front my pc and therefore, some “words/terms” might not be used right.

August 11, 2005 at 4:56 pmYes, the title function is 6 seems limited. I’m not sure how to create the transparency in Photoshop and bring it into Premiere. I’ll try it.
Thanks.

August 12, 2005 at 2:10 amIIRC even in 6.0 and 6.5 you would create the blue square with a 4 colour gradient and set all colors to the same blue, making top right and bottom corners with less opacity. Same for the white line – a 2 color gradient both white in a thin rectangular shape.
The nicely bevelled white rounded rectangle will be more of a trick, but if you can live with the thing in plain white then this is just a rounded rectangle, maybe with another thin rounded rectangle on top but whiter. In Photoshop, make sure you have anti-aliasing turned on to Strong for the text, and feather the edges of the shapes with the seection tool. But much more work to do in PS, and harder to make changes.
