“4X increase in timeline editing performance versus Adobe HDV. On a 3GHz P4 you will edit 3 – 4 HD streams of 1440 x 1080i (5-6 streams of 720p30) in real time on the Premiere Pro timeline including transitions, effects, titles, and motion -

July 9, 2005 at 3:22 pmCineForm “Prospect HD” is 10 bit capable. That’s an HD-SDI system.
Aspect HD is 8 bit. Like HDV. RT performance would take quite a hit if you were using 10 bit for HDV editing…

July 9, 2005 at 4:26 pmAdobe licensed the Cineform technology to get Premiere Pro 1.5.1 to work with HDV. What they did not do is license 100% of the technology. The acceleration involved, and the quick releases (free upgrades) have caused me to believe that Cineform has the right answer. At least for me.
Will Premiere Pro 2.0 have a better engine? I imagine it might. Will it be as good as Aspect HD? I don’t believe it will. My guess is that by the time they release Premiere Pro 2.0, Cineform will have improved the product even more. And well past what Adobe has.
It is a small part of the program, and a specialized company has the technologocal advantage.

July 9, 2005 at 6:14 pmIn my *very* limited knowledge of editing HDV, Steven is right on. A couple of months ago, when PPRO 1.5.1 was released, I attempted to edit HDV on my fairly capable system, however the performance was terrible.
Shortly after, Steven reccomended that I try the Aspect HD codec and during installation, I got a message to overwrite the existing HDV installation. This made me believe that Cineform did indeed license the HDV technology for PPRO.
Needless to say, the acceleration and the performance from Aspect HD is unmatched.
As for future updates, I doubt that PPRO 2.0 will be of the same caliber (HDV wise) as Aspect HD, but there should certainly be an improvement.

July 12, 2005 at 6:31 amSorry for the ignorance… is Cineform technology just for HDV or will it work with basic DV and/or uncompressed SD footage as well?
