Choosing best render settings…
I just don’t know any more!
When I render my projects I usually use Microsoft DV uncompressed, but some of my snobby friends tell me they don’t use Microsoft’s codec. Many use quicktime.
What is the best settings for render?
I have a fast system with lots of hard drive space, so speed and space are not issues.
Normally I edit a scene in Premiere, render it and import the uncompressed file into After Effects for effects, then bring it back into Premiere for the sound editing.
Can you guys tell me what is the best way to render my stuff?
Is there a ‘codec for dummies’ page somewhere?

Microsoft DV uncompressed,
Microsoft DV as all DV video is highly compressed to begin with. Adding effects in Pro and then again in AE can cause noticable generational loss. Switching to an analog codec wont help. The Main Concept DV codec works much better than MS over several generations. It is about $50.

Okay. I use Main Concept MPEG encoder for my DVDs.
Are you saying that I can reliably switch to this codec to replace the Microsoft?
One of my buddies took raw footage and did his own cut of one of my projects in Avid XPress. His output looked much better than mime. I assume now that it is the Avid CODEC.
Can I use Main Concept in After Effects, too?
WHat about 16 bit?

Once installed, the Main Concept codec will be available as an export option in AE as well’
It is a high quality codec like Avid, Camopus and Matrox. -

You’ve confirmed what my buddies have told me and suggested a product that I already use to encode my DVDs.
