  • What type of external Hard Drive should I buy for my laptop for Premire 1.5 Video Playback

    Hi there,

I just got an HP Pavillion ZD8000, P4 3.0GHZ with 2megs of cache on the CPU, 512 mem, X600 ATI Graphics card and an 80 gig 5400rpm HD. I want to digitize and work on my film and I was wondering if there is an external Hard Drive (via firewire) that would playback fine. And, does Premiere work fine on a laptop in order to do serious editing?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated,
    Miro

I edit on a laptop and have absolutely no problems. Due to the lack of Firewire ports on laptops, I generally use internal hard drives in a USB2.0 enclosure and all of them work fine. Just remember to purchase hard drives with at least 7200rpm and an 8MB cache.

Thanks for the info. Can I ask you a few more questions, at what capture rate are you digitizing? What DV or SD format?

    Thanks again,
    Ramiro

Most of my stuff that I capture is SD from VHS, MiniDV and from full sized DV tapes. However, I do not use Premiere Pro to capture my video. I generally work for clients that need something very fast and use Scenalyzer to capture from multiple sources at the same time.
