  Flat map -> to Globe?

  Hi there!
  I would like to do something pretty simple,
  I would like to have ability to “unfold” a sphere (Globe, in my case) to a flat map
  so to the sketch the idea; something from this:

  If the good old CC Sphere would have an unfold possibility…

  There is a 3rd party plugin which has the ability (power-sphere), but it’s trail version is glitchy and stutters.

  I am sure there are ways of achieving the effect. (Without delving into C4D)
  If anyone has a tip or direction, I would love to know!

  Sorry, but I would actually do this in C4D. It’s pretty easy: make the sphere by using the Wrap deformer on a plane. You can then animate its properties to fold/unfold.
