  • Put AE cache or Windows System on M.2 Drive?

Posted by Darryn Rogers on August 16, 2019 at 12:44 am

    Hello
I am putting together a new machine for AE and C4D with Redshift. For storage the machine will have:

    1 x Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe 1TB SSD
    2 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD SATA3

I am wondering what the best utilization of the M.2 drive would be. Should I put the system on there for overall system performance? Or would it be better to use the M.2 for the AE Cache drive? My motherboard also has 2 x U.2 ports. Should I just invest in one of these drives?… bearing in mind my bank account is already looking fairly depleted.

    Here’s the full system specs:
    Intel Core i9 9920X 12 Core LGA 2066 3.50GHz Unlocked Processor
Asus WS X299 SAGE SSI CEB LGA2066 Motherboard
    Corsair Vengeance RAM 64GB
    1 x Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe 1TB SSD
    2 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD SATA
    3 x ASUS Turbo GeForce RTX 2080 Evo, 8GB

I’d definitely put the system on the M.2 drive. If you have the space, you could put the cache there, too.

    Thanks Walter.
My gut said the system should go on the M.2 so it’s nice to have that confirmed.
