Importing from AI, overlaying objects issue.
Hi everyone, ive just started studuing AE, so here’s my stupid question #1:
I’m importing an image from AI. The shadows on the banner are made with multiplication blending mode (in AI).
The white body with shadows is one layer, and each red ribbon is it’s own separate layer.Here’s how it looks in AI:
Then, how it looks in AE:
You can see the lower white pixels hang out under the upper shadow layer. AE sees this as one object.
Is there a way to make this border smooth? Or should i avoid using blending modes in cases like this one?

For starters I didnt know blendmodes from AI crossover to AE. Will have to check that for myself.
Do you have the AI file at 1:1 in AE? Did you scale it up?
Do you have raster on?
And are these elements in actual separate layers in AI. -
Blending modes, as well as gradients always been an issue between .ai’s & .aep’s. Ideally, during preparation, this should be avoided.

I would bring it to Photoshop first and “burn in” the dropshadow, or, that failing, remove the original drop shadow and create a matching but separate layer in normal blend mode filled with transparent black for the shadow. Then bring in the Photoshop file instead. Make sure it is high enough resolution for your needs (based on closest closeup).
