  • Opening Particular Presets causes AE to crash every time

Posted by Hilary Tsai on March 10, 2019 at 9:31 pm

Every time I try to open TC Particular presets menu, my Aftereffects crashes. This hasn’t been a problem until recently, when I updated to OS Mojave. Has this been known to happen to Mojave users? I’m running AE 2017 (14.2.1), and my OS version is 10.14. I have already confirmed that disk space is not causing the issue, though that has sometimes caused it in the past. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there other info you need from me before you can tell me what might be going on? Let me know below.

    Thank you

Unfortunately, yes. I would never have done it, but certain other software necessitated that I upgrade to the latest OS. Is there a chance that using a newer AE version would fix it? Guess I’ll need to partition then, since particular presets are a must have for me.

Did I miss what version of Trapcode? The newest one (just out) has some OS and AE version requirements that may not be compatible with older versions (sigh). The march of planned obsolescence continues.

Thank you Dave. I will keep the advice about the new Creative Cloud in mind.

Steve, I just clicked “about” on TC Particular and it crashed. So unfortunately I can’t check on the version, but it is not the most recent.

@Steve There’s a big “32” on all my Trapcode plugins–does this refer to the version?

That means the plug in is 32bit capable or “clean”. If you are working in a 16 or 32 bit comp and you use an effect that is not 32 or 16bit clean, all that has been processed in the stack to that point gets crushed to 8 bits. Depending on what you are doing this may or may not matter, but it may cause banding or clipping of colours or may reduce the quality of a key or a mask or matte or of a color correction.
