  • Trapcode Form crashing Ae on switch to GPU render

Posted by Brad Bussé on February 8, 2019 at 11:26 pm

I’m on the latest version of Adobe CC, Trapcode Form 4.0.1. I’m applying one of the fluid dynamic presets, and it works fine with CPU (albeit only using 8% of my 12-core xeon when previewing). So I try to switch the renderer to use GPU (I have a GTX 1080), and when I do my boot drive (SSD) increases to 100% usage for a minute, then Ae crashes.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Loosely related to this issue, I have experienced more GPU-related crashes on AE with GTX 1080 than with 980. Most obvious issue is that I can’t render Re:Vision DeFlicker with the GPU, only CPU. GPU rendering crashes almost every time.

GPU acceleration in Form/Particular isn’t useful on calculating the fluid movement – it’s only helpful on the rendering of the particles themselves (and that only in certain situations). So GPU setting might not even be any better.

That said, have you tried updating your driver?
