  How to create the same effect of the Connect Layers script

  Hi! I’m trying to connect dots in 3D in After Effects but am having a lot of trouble!!! The lines just don’t seem to do what I want them to. I noticed that there is a script called connect layers that does this, but I was hoping I could do it on my own without any outside resources (partially because of price, and partially because I’d like to know for future reference. Could someone help me out with this? Thanks!

  It’s not fully 3D, but you can connect 3D nulls with the beam effect by getting the 2D coordinates of the nulls for the beam ends. The line itself won’t be 3D.

  The 2D coordinates of the 3D null “Null 1”:

  L = thisComp.layer("Null 1");
L.toComp(L.anchorPoint)

  So you would put that for the beam start coordinate and another null for the beam end.

  You’ll need as many beam effects as you have lines to draw.
