So I am trying to look for how I can achieve this “Wrinkled up paper background” effect in after effects (where it’s super simplistic) but i’m having trouble finding the name of it/ googling on how to make it.

Can somebody help me find this type of effect?

I don’t know if it’s this but have a look at Trapcode Mir.

I created a background very similar to this with Trapcode Mir.

You could do it without buying third-party plugins though. ☺

You would need to use Cinema 4D Lite (it comes free with After Effects. You’d make a plane, triangulate it, and then distort it.

Yet another option: Motion Boutique Connect layers with filled triangles.
