Hey folks, in making a series of modular graphics, I found that what I really wanted for ease of use is the ability to create mattes in an additional channel in one comp, and then access that information in another.

As you know, in a 3D program, this is exactly what the AUX channels are for, and AE can access AUX information that’s written into another file.

What I’m wondering is: is there any way to WRITE information to an aux channel within a comp, such that it could later be accessed via a plugin like ExtractoR or ID Matte.

And yes, I know there are other ways of achieving any given effect, but in certain circumstances this would by far the most efficient and flexible. I’d much rather do this than have 50 different expressions manually linked between two comps.

Let me know if there’s any way to accomplish this, either via AE native, or a 3rd party plugin.

    Cheers,
    Ari
