Blendkit Offers 20% Discount to Celebrate Crossing 150K Asset Milestone
Blendkit, the largest 3D asset library integrated into Blender, has surpassed 150,000 assets in its database. To mark the milestone, the platform has announced a 48-hour 20% discount on its Full Plan and select Blender add-ons.
Originally launched in 2017 by a group of Czech friends passionate about open-source, the project has evolved into a global collaborative community. “I wanted to reduce the entry barrier for new artists and give Blender a fighting chance. Generally, I wanted Blender to be even better,” stated co-founder Vilém Duha. “It’s very important for us that we raise money for the Blender Foundation and open-source development with Blendkit. My further motivation was to develop a system through which asset creators could have a regular income.”
The platform, offering models, materials, brushes, scenes, HDRIs, node groups, printables, and Blender add-ons, operates on a dual-distribution model. Approximately 50% of the total library is available for free, while the paid Full Plan subscription provides access to the remaining database. Revenue from subscriptions is distributed to independent asset creators and used to fund open-source software development.
Currently, the platform logs 2.34 million registered users and hosts assets from 2,485 international creators, resulting in an average of 6.7 million downloads per month. Though initially developed exclusively as a Blender add-on, Blendkit has expanded its ecosystem by releasing free, open-source plugins for Maya, Rhino, and Godot.
Reflecting on the journey of the community, Duha added: “It’s an amazing feeling that we had this crazy idea and actually did it. We had to overcome a lot, learn many skills. It makes me very happy when I read the thank you emails sent to us. There are kids using Blendkit in their first Blender projects and on the other hand, there are studios using it for high-end productions.”
