MotionVFX joins Apple Team
Posted by Ben Balser on March 23, 2026 at 2:49 pm1 – MotionVFX’s statement says they “joined” the Apple team. They do not used the terms acquisition or buy-out. Media outlets are using those terms.
2 – Apple itself is not commenting on this at all.
Thus; what does ” joining the Apple team” actually mean? The word “joining” does not have the same definition as the word “acquisition.” Thoughts?

March 23, 2026 at 3:48 pmIf you look at financial news sites, Apple bought the company. How they will be marketed is unknown.
CNBC for example:
cnbc.com
Apple acquires video editing company MotionVFX to boost subscribers
Apple is buying MotionVFX in part to help the iPhone maker attract more subscribers to its creator tools.

March 23, 2026 at 4:02 pmMy concern is that there’s been no change in subscription pricing.
It’s still $828 a year or $69/mo for Ultimate. I’d hate to lock into a year at that price if Apple is going to integrate key features into FCP or, at least, have a much lower tiered pricing. I have to imagine this is going to stall new subscriptions until Apple indicates where they’re going with this.
Any of us can speculate, but it would be just that without any statements from Apple.
That Apple is silent is itself a concern because you’d think they’d have gone into this purchase with an implementation plan.

March 24, 2026 at 12:25 pmThey are only going off of the same post we all see on the MotionVFX site, and ASSUMING it was a buy-out. But no where has anyone CONFIRMED it was an acquisition. Those news sites are just assuming.

March 24, 2026 at 1:47 pmIn my opinion, Apple’s acquisition of Motion VFX can be seen as a continuation of the policy it began implementing with Creator Studio. With this acquisition, Apple has once again demonstrated its long-term goal of targeting not only pro users but also, as it has long done, social media-focused users. By offering subscription-based planning and ready-to-use effects within FCP without the need to purchase extra plugins, it is essentially targeting a competitor like Capcut and aims to expand the FCP ecosystem and, consequently, increase Mac sales to a wider audience.

March 29, 2026 at 10:48 pmHow does using ONLY MotionVFX templates and plugins, and blocking out all the others who make a living making templates and plugins, do FCP or Apple any good? It limits your options, not expands them.

March 30, 2026 at 8:55 amI don’t think they’ll use all of Motion VFX products, at least not initially. They’ll likely be added gradually, so they can tell new customers they are adding new functions.
Time will tell how other manufacturers will react and what changes they will make to their products.
