  Masking in Resolve

  When I go to mask and I have 2 clips on the timeline, V1 and V2 and I press the clip on V2, and I am in the mask screen how can I make the top track V2 see through to V1 so I can see what V1 looks like when I’m doing the mask?

  Hello,

  It sounds like you simply want to see V1 underneath while adjusting a mask on V2 (a temporary “see-through” reference).

  If you’re masking in the Color page (Power Window): a Power Window doesn’t make the clip transparent. Quick workaround: go to the Edit page, select the V2 clip, Inspector, Opacity and lower it (e.g. 50%) while you position the window, then set it back to 100%.

  If you’re masking in Fusion: make sure you’re viewing the composite (a Merge node with V2 as Foreground and V1 as Background) and adjust the mask while looking at the Merge output.

  if you want to mask something on v2 to make it keyable over V1, you need to add an alpha output to the V2 node tree. (right click on the open space around the right hand part of the node tree and add alpha output) Then make your mask and drag the blue output from that mask to the alpha output plug. This will give you a keyable layer on V2
