Rolling Number Counter with Expressions – After Effects Tutorial

Learn how to create a spinning odometer-style counter in Adobe After Effects using expressions and precomps.

There’s an easy method and a more complicated option, so I’ll cover both of them step-by-step. First I talk you through setting up a precomp with text arranged so that it can roll over without a join. Then we’ll build:

1) a simple rolling counter with a clever blur expression.

2) a single slider to control all three numbers.

Finally, I’ll talk you through a couple of steps to make this work with the CC Cylinder effect to create a cylindrical mileometer / odometer.
