I am pretty new to 3D workflows in After Effects, finally getting my teeth into it. One thing that’s bothering me that I can’t find any info about, is the Advanced 3D renderer seems to have a baked in, always on light?

If I work in classic, don’t make a light and create a coloured solid, its the colour, no matter the position or orientation.

In advanced 3D however, the colours are immediately affected, as if there’s a light in the comp (although there isn’t.) Is this just a quirk of working with advanced 3D or am I overlooking something?

If this is just how it works, is there a work around to force the colours to stay “true”?

Here’s a little video showing off what I am talking about, can appreciate it’s a lot easier to see than read: https://vimeo.com/1010192106/ea04a8840e?ts=0&share=copy

    Cheers!

I can’t say for sure because I can’t find the documentation, but I think it’s a default light like you get in most 3D applications. It’s on so you can place your objects, model, etc., before creating your final lighting setup. Once you create other lights, the default light will no longer effect your scene.
