  • New keyframe overwrites previous or next keyframe…what went wrong?

Not sure what I did to make this happen but key framing position in a project I’ve been working in has stopped working as expected. If I say, set a keyframe in the Y axis of an object to “20”, move forward 10 frames and set another keyframe on the Y axis to “80”, the value of the first keyframe changes to “80” as well when looking at the values in the coordinates menu. Same things happens if I try it visa-versa. The odd thing is that if I look at the F Curve in the timeline, I can see the value curve goes from 20-80 but yet there is no movement. Did I somehow disconnect the curve from the object? Figuring it’s something I messed up somehow but not sure what.

    Hello Aaron,

Can you record yourself doing that, in order for us to see what you are doing it?

There are many ways to make this happen

    For example

If you have enabled the “Autokeying” and you do:

    1) Go to frame 10

    2) Set position to 20 on y

    3) Change position to 80 on y

    5) Go to frame 50

Then you obviously have changed your frame 10.

    Hi George,

    Here’s a link to a screen recording:

    https://youtu.be/LjBDUiAy5yc

I start by showing the property I am animating which is a bend deformer rolling out the tongue. Then I set the keyframe positions and show how the first keyframe position changes to the same as the second keyframe once that is added and there is no movement. I then show the F curve where you can see the values are different but have no effect on the deformers position.

I then delete everything and animate the position of a square in the same project to the same effect. Lastly, I hop over to a new project where I have copied the tongue and here the animation of the bend deformers position works fine.

Thanks for taking a look at it. Hopefully all of that makes sense!

I would suggest you to do this. Create a new project and copy everything from the tongue scene inside the new project. You will only have to redo the project and render settings.

Thanks I will give that a shot. Does it appear to be a corrupted scene file to you? Just wondering if it’s some kind of pilot error so i don’t do it again!
