Layer Based Raw Video Debayering
Hello cows!
I am trying to add orange glow of campfire on face and with day to night conversion on a raw video. After effects already debayers the footage in certain color space. So when I try to color grade and change temperature, it is destructive editing on video footage and loses so much detail.
Is there any way to directly do it on raw video. Like layer based video interpretation. Different parts on video will have separate debayering. Like I can mask out face and give it different exposure and temperature settings and background I can keep different settings. This way all the quality will be preserved. Only other option is to do it frame by frame which is not worth it.

Question, does it automatically seperate the layers once you pass the RAW video in the timeline? At least in Premiere Pro for example, you can add a raw video in the timeline and add effects like these within the video itself directly. Seems After Effects operates differently.

Not sure if that tech exists but in post, we usually do it with masking and layers.

On raw video formats, the debayering settings are properties at the footage level, and located in the Interpret Footage settings.
I think that to do what you’re describing in After Effects, you’d actually want to duplicate the footage item, once for each different raw/debayering setting, use Interpret Footage to change the settings, then stack/mask/composite as you wish.
It’s not a very interactive process. If your footage really isn’t clean enough to manage from a single debayering pass, I’d probably be more inclined to pre-process the video in your color tool of choice, output your multiple passes, and then comp.
