Green Screen Shadows
Posted by Adelynne Frank on June 12, 2023 at 12:29 amI’ve working on a video that needs to be edited as soon as possible, and the people who filmed it used a green screen. The problem with this is that their shadows are on the green screen. Is there any way to remove these while still keying out the green screen?

June 13, 2023 at 3:14 amHey Adelynne,
How bad are the shadows?
And how long are the clips?Best solution is likely to be to jump over to After Effects and rotoscope the people there, without their shadows.
After Effects will do a decent job for you, without you having to spend a lot of time on it.
You can also be adventurous and use Mocha.Alternative is to do a key, and make the shadows work on the new background.
Worse case is that you go back and shoot, and make sure the back-drop is fully evenly lit and performers are either lit from front above or distanced further out from the backdrop.Atb

June 14, 2023 at 5:13 pmFrom my experience with Green Screens editing in Sony Vegas which would be the Chroma Keyer effects, there are different settings you can play around in within the effect that can remove some of the black corners and shadows, you may want to keep playing around just incase. It would have helped just like the other guy mentioned, it would help if you show a screenshot of the exact issue so we know better to identify the problem and come up with a solution with you. Hope to hear back from you soon!

June 14, 2023 at 11:29 pmI’ve had to deal with this nightmare workflow.
At times, color grading the shadows to even with the rest of the green works.
However, you would need to key it out and then use the final mask on the original, or whatever you fancy.
At times I would have a key on all layers using AE.
