  • Animating a PSD drawing in AE

I’ve done some illustrations in PS just using brush strokes. I’m comfortable working from PS and AI to AE; however, I’m stuck at how best to animated my sketches now. Is there any workflow that will allow me to, for instance, convert my PSD layers into shapes in AE that I can say apply a wiggle effect to?

Basically, I’m trying to figure out how best (or how possible) to get my drawing lines to move around slightly, or wiggle, in AE. I usually do this using .ai files and converting to shape layers. But I had to work in PS to have access to all the brushes and make it look the way I wanted. Plus, I’m much more comfortable working in PS than AI. Maybe I have to do it entirely differently, say using a turbulent displacement effect on the psd layers?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hi Mel, i think i have a simple solution to your question!

I recently did an animation course and we were animating in Photoshop, we used the timeline menu (window).
you can warp your image or even redraw if you want to spend a bit of time on it, im sure with your prior knowledge you coould achieve a nice animation. 🙂

you can also export like in premier from PS to suitable filetype

Give the Puppet tool a try:
