After Effects Not Much Faster on New Workstation
So I’ve finally upgraded my workstation to bolster AE performance, and tried to max out the specs to really notice a difference.

Seagate IronWolf 8TB NAS Hard Drive, 3.5 inch, 7200RPM, 256MB Cache, CMRHowever I’m not seeing any improvement over my laptop workstation which I bought in 2016!
I’ve allocated maximum memory to AE, and my projects and Disk Cache are all saved on fast separate drives.
I’m talking about RAM previewing and timeline scrubbing a lot of mixed media layers with stacked effects, but nothing significantly taxing. Also render times are not much better.
I know a fast GPU often won’t help AE much, unless there’s a lot of integrated 3D. I could use a render farm, but that doesn’t explain the issue.
I’ve tried most of the common suggestions like regularly clearing cache and enabling multi-frame processing and hardware acceleration.
I’m now wondering whether upgrading to 128gb RAM will help at all, or if I’ve just hit a ceiling on this? Are there any other upgrades or external hardware that would significantly improve performance?
What setup would a big animation studio use for superfast results?
Any help hugely appreciated!

I’ve had a similar disappointment, but I did come to realise that my set up (which is pretty similar to yours) is a lot more stable. I upgraded from a 5-year-old computer which was struggling to output a video. While using AE I’ve not “felt the improvement”, but I don’t think I’ve had a single failed render in the last 10 months.
So I guess that’s where a more powerful computer makes the difference.

The truth is no matter how you upgrade your PC to core i9 , it won’t still function 100% compared to a PC that was built from the factory as core i9 but you can still tweak settings to make your upgraded PC function better with the 11 tips plus a video I provided below
1. Turn on Multiprocessing
You can activate this function to speed up rendering if your processor has more than one core. You should check to see if this option is enabled because, once it is, render time will be significantly reduced.
Go to Preferences > Memory & Multiprocessing to enable multiprocessing. After that, you should tick the box next to “Render Several Frames Simultaneously” on the screen and make any necessary adjustments.
2. Turn off 3D Raytracing
You may create 3D models directly from the After Effects application using the Ray Traced 3D capability. But, daily projects generally don’t call for considerable use.
3.Cut Back on Work:
A few After Effects presets need a lot of resources. If you need Motion Blur in your final render, you should add it at the time of rendering rather than in post-production, where it was not intended to be used, which would cut your render time in half.
Real-time previews can be turned off so that your computer’s processing power can be used entirely for rendering instead of displaying the previews to you.
