  Slider Doesn’t Update While Playing

  Hi guys,

  I’m a relative newbie on Premier so I don’t know if this is something I don’t know how to do or if it’s something the program can’t do. (Although you would think that it would.)

  I am working on narrator footage in my timeline and as I am reviewing it, I often want to use the slider to move ahead while it’s playing so I can see where my clips end, etc., but when I move the slider it won’t move forward. It always reverts back to where the playhead is.

  So my question is… is there a setting that will allow the slider to get ahead of the playhead and not revert back to where the playhead is?

  I’ve looked all around and haven’t been able to find an answer.

  Any help would be very much appreciated… Thanks…

  <div>Premiere insists on showing you the portion of the timeline that contains the position indicator, at least when you are stopped. This is a good thing. I suspect the behavior you describe (which can be annoying) is because you have auto-scrolling on. If set auto-scrolling to “No scroll” (Preferences, Timeline) then it will let you examine the timeline while playing without constantly jumping back to the position indicator, but it will still jump back to the position indicator when you stop playing.

  Thank you so much for the tip. It worked. Eureka!

  I actually switched the auto scroll from Page Scroll to Smooth Scroll, but hadn’t tried the No Scroll because in a video I was watching on scrolling the host said something like “I can’t imagine anyone ever using no scroll” so I never tried it.

  Thanks again for your help, I’m sure it will save me a lot of time…
