Reference Comp specifically (and dynamically)
Is there any way to reference a Comp in the Project window specifically?
For some context…I’ve generated a flexible and responsive comp structure that resizes and repositions everything based on the base comp size.
It’s all working great…BUT, not if someone wanted to have two of the same responsive comps in the same project/working file.
My THEORY is that if I structure everything (the responsive base comp and all corresponding sub-comps in a Folder (in the Project window), there’s likely a way I can duplicate the entire folder…and have the responsive base comp in that folder be referenced for the sizing etc. Does this make sense?
Am I dreaming, or on the right path?

I don’t think there’s a way to make that work with expressions. Expressions reference comps by name and all expressions that reference the same comp name will get the same result, based on its order in the project panel.

I theory could a script resolve this? Seems I probably need to dive into scripts (or at least understand how they work a bit better)

Possibly, but I think the script would need to give the new reference comp a new name and then update all expression references in the duplicate subcomps to point to the new reference comp. Not impossible, but not trivial.
