  • Layer is getting cropped on final render

Posted by David Cabestany on June 19, 2017 at 10:48 pm

One of the layers in my comp is getting obscured or cropped (for lack of a better word) on the final render.

Nothing complicated going on with it, it’s an .ai logo which is scaled up a lot and slowly goes back to its original size; naturally I turned on the continuously rasterize switch and although in the live project it looks fine, when I render a large portion of it is missing for a few frames. If I turn off the switch the layer does not get cropped but it looks very pixelated.

    Please see attached

There’s no masks or mattes of any kind, all layers are 2d.

I believe this is a bug but if anyone can suggest a quick fix it would be great.

    Best,
    D.

Can you render the logo animation out on an alpha channel separately then place it back on top to render the final file? Doesn’t fix the bug, but could be a work-around if you need it quickly.

Can’t I tried it already. I get the same weird cropping with the layer soloed.

How scaled up is it? What version of AE? What are your computer specs? What effects (if any) have been applied to that layer? What happens if you convert it to a shape layer?

Scale 212.8%, however is parented, if I unparent it the actual size is 56271%
    AE CC 2017.2
    Mac OS 10.10, 32gb RAM, 2gb VRAM.
I’ll tell you about the converted shape layer in a couple hours, the render takes roughly one hour and 20 minutes to complete, however is a great suggestion, hadn’t thought of it before.

    Thanks!

    Hey Michael,

I rendered the file using a shape layer instead of the .ai file and it came out fine.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

Hooray! I’ll bet it has to do with how massively scaled that layer was and how AE handles AI files. Glad we found a way to get it to work! 🙂
