Vector files not visible on the timeline
Hi there!
I’ve an issue with AE. I can’t see vector files (.ai) on the timeline. Anyone can help me?

Are you using any effects in Illustrator?
Is that layer and actual layer in AI?
And I take it some layers work but some dont correct?
Check back in AI and see what the difference is between the two.
You can also copy and paste between AI and AE.

thanks for your reply. I have disable the effects on illustrator but it doesn’t solve.
I can copy and paste paths from illustrator but I would to be able to import .ai files.
I have enclosed the .ai file.

The original AI you posted was too large on a document scale for my taste.
As you can see in the attached “original_view_scale” I had to set it to 8.33% to view on my 4K (QUAD) screen.The elements were also residing on one layer.
As you can see in the “original_imported” screenshot.
If you create your layers in AI correctly, then import using (see screenshot) composition retain layer sizes, you should be fine.
Check my screenshot for the updated (I scaled it all down for my sanity) layers.
Please check each layer if the proper elements are there.
I could have goofed it up.
Also, I didn’t have the fonts so hopefully, I didn’t bugger that up too.

Hello Eric, thank you very much for doing these tests!
Each artboard was 1920x1920px because this is the size of the final video.
Now I’ve imported the .ai file that you edited and I see it correctly, but if I increase the size of any element it appears pixelated (because the size is much more smaller).
Maybe I have to create an .ai file for each screen (1920x1920px) and import them individually? Do you think I could fix?

For each element (layer) you need to turn on the RASTERIZE option.
Your artboard may be 1920×1920 but the DPI may have been set to some crazy number.
For vectors, you don’t need to fuss over pixel size.
But you should keep a number that you can work with.
I’ve had designers send me postage size stamp docs that I can scale to AE highest pixel size and it works fine.
As long as you can deal with it in AI without having to play with the view scale.
