Hi there ! First post, please be kind (unlike the Redditors)

I’m a senior editor with a large agency, and recently things are getting changed up quite a lot in terms of the creative and post workflow.. a lot more vfx elements creeping in. Anyway cutting to the chase:

I’ve been handed a shot to work with, and it’s defeating me. Spent the day battling with Mocha AE and a ton of tutorials on YT. Is there anyone here who could throw me a bone in terms of my tracking processes? It’s driving me nuts!

I won’t go into all the detail now as it’s quite specific, but please let me know if you’d be willing to take a look at the shot I’m dealing with, and provide some input.

I’m a little scared if Mocha and AE have failed, but I’ll take a look at the shot.

Shoot me an email at johnfcuevas@gmail.com with a link to the shot

I don’t think Mocha AE is going to do the job you want because it does planar tracking and you need camera or 3D tracking. I took a shot at it with AE camera track and got a decent track. I inserted a cylinder object into the scene at the tracked point(except for it not landing exactly where it should—there might be a difference between CC 3D space and AE 3D space) it tracks well. Take a look at the project I created and see if that gives you a starting point.

Actually took a 2nd whack at it using the Cinema 4D render engine, curving a plane and placing it in the can’s position and it came out pretty close.

If someone were to pay me to do this, I probably would be looking at doing a 3D camera track in Cinema 4D, and then placing a cylinder where the can is and build from there. No matter what the approach you take, this is going to be a very tough shot to do some kind of replacement.
