AE Shadow stacking
Hi all, having an issue where I can’t seem to workout why my 3D object’s shadows arent stacking / blending. Not sure if this jsut isnt somehting I haven’t noticed before, but looking for a solution.
For instance, why does this PNG logo not create a darker shadow on the already shadowed surface (which it should)?
Moving the layer higher will reveal its shadow, but I want it to DARKEN the area already in shadow. Hope this makes sense.

I think the issue you may have is that you are applying the shadow to a precomposition of items, instead of the individual item itself.

No its defiantely individual items, all in one comp.

After Effects 3D engine doesn’t stack shadows. If that’s the look you want to achieve, you are going to have to fake it.

Do shadows stack? In reality, shadows can only get so dark. If you’re wanting a darker shadow, you could duplicate your text layer, set it to the color you want, then position it below the original, so that it’s roughly where you want the shadow to be. Then parent it to the original.
Finally, use a copy of the “shadow catcher” layer as a track matte for the shadow, so that it only appears on the layer. – As John says: fake it.
