  Tracking a line on movement?

  These videos always have a particle emitter on an existing path however my source material is different and it has to be done very rapidly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XicbAHsO_Y4
  My question is, can AE track a line (from a video) without the user having to trace the image with the path tool?? For instance might tracking for any difference on the canvas work?..

  I would say your best bet is to either create the paths manually with the pen tool or try Auto Trace.

  Or trace it in Illustrator, which will probably work better than After Effect’s Auto Trace.
