CC Particle World emitter linked to 3D layer (sep dimensions + parented)
I’ve got a 3D layer (called “sea horse”) with separate dimensions enabled.
Sea horse is parented to a 2D null (called “EATEN THINGS NULL”).
I would like to link the emitter from CC Particle World to sea horse’s position. I started with an expression based on this:
Position X:
x=thisComp.layer(“Null 1”).transform.position[0]-thisComp.width/2;
x/thisComp.width;
The above expression stops working right if the layer it’s linked to is parented. Using a toWorld expression also doesn’t work, seemingly because Separate Dimensions is enabled.
I’ve tried creating a “follower” null (with separate dimensions not enabled) which I shift+pick-whipped to sea horse. Then I tried adding this expression to the CC Particle World emitter (Position X in this case):
a=toWorld(thisComp.layer(“sea horse follower null”).transform.position);
x=a[0]-thisComp.width/2;
x/thisComp.width;This doesn’t throw up any errors but it also doesn’t work as hoped. The emitter doesn’t move at all. It just takes on the follower null’s displayed position values, which of course don’t change. I thought the toWorld expression would bypass that, so to speak, and yield the follower null’s actual position.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
