  About render settings while editing the timeline

  Hi, I’ve been working on and off with DR Studio for a while now but since projects are not regular I’m learning rather slowly. On my latest project I’m editing some 4K footage (about 59 mins in two clips). Every time I edit the timeline or add an audio effect the timeline starts rendering automatically. I have render cache on Smart and Fusion Memory on Auto. While rendering it isn’t really possible to continue editing and I end up having to wait for big chunks of time till I can resume . I suspect my set-up/workflow is not right.

  Here’s my setup:

  First media storage location, cache, stills and proxy media: Samsung SSD X5 via Thunderbolt

  Model Name: iMac

  Model Identifier: iMac20,2

  Processor Name: 8-Core Intel Core i7

  Processor Speed: 3.8 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 8

  L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

  L3 Cache: 16 MB

  Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled

  Memory: 128 GB

  System Firmware Version: 1715.60.5.0.0 (iBridge: 19.16.10647.0.0,0)

  Any suggestions much appreciated.

  What format are your render cache settings set to? Try lowering the quality of your proxy settings. You’ll find them in the project settings (small gear on the bottom right). Look for ‘Optimized Media and Render Cache. Check your ‘Working Folders’ location – try moving your working folders to a separate internal drive if you can.

  If you have an external monitor, you can also change your monitor settings for some small gains – set to single link and 8 bit – but it only affects your external monitor.

  Finally, make sure you’re on the latest greatest DR version and that your video card is using the latest driver.
