    Hello fellow filmmakers!

Not sure this post belongs where it should so forgive me in advance,

I’m pretty new to color grading and I still haven’t grasped the whole workflow that me and the colorist “established”. I was under the notion that once he is done and sends me a huge HD broadcast master file, Rec709, gamma 2.4, I could just use this and slap it together with my mixed audio track and then export out whatever format I want…

Seems that it is a bit more complicated…

To get whatever TV or projector to show what you see on your computer screen, my guy claims I have to do a BLURAY disc out of it or a “complicated” export with many settings (A ProRes for example). His actual best recommendation for me was to upload it to VIMEO since the platform apparently does all this for you “automatically”. That sounds cool to me but too much of a risk of playing a heavy Vimeo clip in front of an audience with the risk of lag from modem/router or whatever. Say I upload my finished film onto Vimeo, if I were to later download the file off Vimeo, will it display the proper colors or does it have to be played “online” through the platform as I am showing my film?

Do you guys have any other suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Axel
